About

ECS Gas Training Limited was formed in April 2008 by Graham Hawkes who has 37 years experience in the Gas Industry as an Engineer and a Trainer/Assessor.
The huge success of ECS, is mainly due to the fact that we provide exactly what the candidate requires, at a very reasonable cost. We are able to do this because unlike other larger Centres, we work with a maximum of six candidates at any one time, and therefore we provide the candidate with a very personal training programme, delivered quickly, professionally, and in a stress free environment.

If you require a place at ECS, it is advisable to book as early as possible as we are taking bookings one year in advance.

Category 2 Course

The Category 2 Course is specifically designed by ECS for the Plumber, Heating & Ventilation Engineer, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer, or any other person who already has some experience in an industry related to Gas. The candidate must hold a relevant qualification in his/her field ie NVQ Level 2 or similar. On application, we will check your qualification to see if it is suitable. The candidate is also required to provide a detailed letter from a Gas Safe Registered Engineer with whom the candidate has worked with, or a portfolio of evidence. The course is flexible to suit the individual requirements of the candidate, and training can consist of anything from one to five days. This is followed by ACS Assessments which again can take up to five days.

New Entrant 4 Week Training Course (NE4)

The NE4 is designed by ECS to enable people with no experience to gain access to the GAS Industry. The training is flexible, to allow the candidate to study around their current employment or day to day duties. NE4 covers training on all 15 core competencies required for Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1).

Part A (Theory): Two weeks intense training covering all aspects of theory required in ACS assessments. Home study may be required, depending on the candidates knowledge and ability.

Part B (Practical): One week hands-on practical in centre, covering all practical tasks required in the portfolio of evidence. Tightness Testing, Gas Rating, Working Pressure & burner Pressure Checks, Flue Testing, Spillage Testing, etc.

Part C (Portfolio Building): The candidate is provided with a portfolio, outlining a minimum number of tasks which must be carried out on-the-job, under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Part D (Refresher course Plus ACS Assessments): A refresher course lasting between one and five days, plus Pathway To Gas Assessments followed by ACS Assessments.

Portfolio Building

Portfolio building is not as complicated as it may sound. We at ECS can provide you with a portfolio which when completed, is acceptable to all Gas Assessment Centres. We have a number of engineers available for portfolio building andwe can arrange for you to assist one or more of our selected engineers to gain vital evidence for your portfolio. The engineers are specifically trained to know exactly what tasks must be included, and will supervise you whilst you carry out these tasks. The timescale to building a portfolio is open ended, and depends entirely on the knowledge and experience of the individual.

An experienced person who works regularly on Gas Appliances could complete their portfolio within days. A person who has little or no experience would need much longer and would follow the advice of our engineers.

Portfolio building can take place during the working day or at evenings and weekends.

We have engineers who are flexible and can work around your current day to day situation.

Prices can vary between engineers, and the amount of time spent, and work carried out.

Typical prices range from £500 to £1000
